N9042B UXA Signal Analyzer Upgrades
Most all of the N9042B options that are sold at the time of instrument purchase are also available as an upgrade option. The upgrade contents are listed in the tables below as Hardware, Software, License Key, or some combination of the three. Hardware retrofit kits will contain the assemblies to be installed as well as the installation instructions. In many cases a license key will be required to activate the hardware option.
Upgrade options are categorized as:
- Internal Hardware Upgrades (Ex. Preamplifier, Analysis Bandwidth, etc..)
- External Hardware Upgrades (Ex. Rackmount Kit or Minimum Loss Pad)
- Instrument Software (Ex. Instrument Software or Measurement Applications)

Internal Hardware Upgrades:
Before a hardware upgrade is purchased the following steps should be taken:
- Go to the "Installed By" column and read the installed by definition.
- View the installation note if available by selecting the "Install Note" links in the table below for the desired upgrade option.
If an upgrade option is going to be installed by a Keysight Service Center, additional labor charges will apply. Your Keysight account manager can provide an all-inclusive quote for this.
All instrument adjustments are automated and require the use of the Keysight Performance Verification & Adjustment Software
Many hardware upgrades will require the redemption and installation of a license key file (.lic) to activate the option. Once a redemption certificate is received the license key file can be redeemed at the Keysight Software License Redemption Website

1 While the completion of the recommended adjustments and verification tests for a given option upgrade does verify the functionality of the option, it does not guarantee that the entire instrument meets all published specifications. A full instrument calibration is the only way to guarantee that all instrument specifications are being met.
2 The instrument calibration data file MUST be transferred in order for the analyzer to meet specifications. If the calibration file is not transferred, all adjustments and verification tests must be performed. Refer to the Install Note in the above table for details
3 Upgrade can be performed by the User without any performance verification required if the instrument being upgraded is still within its original factory calibration cycle and no major repairs or adjustments have been performed on the instrument. See the upgrade install note for more details.

Instrument Software
Instrument Software Update:
The software update package for the UXA Signal Analyzer contains the spectrum analyzer measurement application, all the advanced measurement application software, and all other updates required by the individual measurement assemblies inside the instrument.
Keysight recommends updating the instrument software whenever an internal hardware upgrade or measurement application is installed into the instrument.
